DescriptionThe field of Computer Mediated Communication (CMC) began in the late 1980's as an attempt by academia to understand the implications of electronic debate and scholarship. Since that time, the field has grown to encompass an understanding of the means by which companies and other organizations share information with their employees and members over the Internet. In practice, CMC is intimately involved with the construction of rule based systems that determine who in an organization or corporation should or must be able to access communications that could be described as sensitive data.
